I’m currently on hiatus from this blog & coaching for the most part. I’m healing.
After almost 30 years with ME/CFS and 18 with Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity (EHS), I’m healing with the help of Annie Hopper’s DNRS program and Ashok Gupta’s Gupta Program (& more recently Joey Remenyi’s Rock Steady book for vertigo & tinnitus – check them all out).
The fatigue has gone. After 25 years of needing a sleep in the afternoon to continue to function at any useful level, I no longer need a nap. I’m so much stronger. And the post-exertion malaise is gone too!!!! I even climbed a mountain near my home, which was almost a 3 hour round trip.
I wish someone had told me about the DNRS and Gupta programs earlier. To me they make perfect sense as to why I became ill – a physical brain trauma causing the brain (limbic system) to malfunction and send innacurate signals to the rest of the body. It reinforces to me that ME/CFS and EHS are absolutely physical illnesses, but also that we have the power – with our minds – to heal ourselves, or at least put our body in a position where our parasympathic nervous system can do the healing for us. And so far it’s worked for me. I’d say now that I do not have ME/CFS anymore. Huge!!!
As for the EHS, well I still have some work to do. But I have every confidence that I’ve finally found the reason for the illness AND that I now have the power to heal from it. I just need to keep doing the brain retraining exercises in order for neuroplasticity to take effect and also allow my parasympathetic nervous system to heal my body.
Just doing the exercises every day, right from the start, changed my life. It made me happier immediately. This was not just because I had some hope, which certainly helped because prior to that I was starting to lose it. No, it was because the exercises help you tap into your own inner joy and that of the world around you.
Anyway, Google them. Or click on the links above or here.
For now I’m going to delete most of my About page because I am in a holding pattern or intense healing, and for now I don’t do anything other than be a Mum and heal (& do my art and gardening).
…. I’m leaving the old copy here for when I’m healed enough to help others like I’ve always wanted to
The Get Up And Go Guru is about working with people who have CFS / ME / CFIDS and EHS to manage their symptoms and still work towards their goals and live their life purpose.
The Get Up And Go Guru aims primarily to empower people with CFS /ME & EHS to still follow their dreams and passions, contribute to the world in ways that are important to them, and manage the illness and pain while also living a fulfilling life.
It’s about learning to work with the cards you’ve been dealt in life rather than wishing you had a different hand of cards.
As the motto says:
“Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass. It’s about learning to dance in the rain” – Vivien Greene
The Get Up And Go Guru is all about “learning to dance in the rain!”
Louise Bibby (aka Hocking) (that’s me!!) draws from her academic qualifications, counselling experience and life experience to assist clients to manage the symptoms of their CFS while also achieving their life goals and following their passions.
Having lived with a chronic illness herself for the past 20 years, Louise has experienced the many ups and downs, physical and mental, that come with CFS / ME and electrosensitivity. As well as her psychology qualifications and counselling experience, she has a deep insight into the experience of chronic pain and illness.
“For many years I ‘suffered’ from the illness I have, but I no longer view myself as a ‘sufferer’ of pain and illness. I still have both, but my experience is no longer one of suffering – not because the pain is gone or the illness is cured, but because I have learned to live my life with pain and illness.
“I’ve learned to view my life differently and especially the way I see the pain and illness I experience. They no longer define who I am or rule my life like they once did”.
“First and foremost, people with CFS are human beings, with passions, goals and desires. I want to work with people who have pain and illness so that they too no longer ‘suffer’ with the CFS they have and are no longer victims of an illness or pain. I want to work with them to reclaim their lives, regardless of pain and illness.”
You’ve heard of “Reclaim the Night”? Well The Get Up And Go Guru aims to give you a chance to Reclaim You!
“The Get Up And Go Guru came out of me pondering what to call myself on a business card when I first started consulting.
I have a first class Honours degree in Psychology … but I’m not a psychologist!
I’m a trained and experienced counsellor … but I’m not a counsellor!
I have 20 years’ experience living with CFS and electrosensitivity, and I want to help others navigate their way through this illness a bit easier than I did at times.
But what does that make me? What do I CALL myself?!
In a conversation with a friend in 2011 I joked that I thought I might just go with “Guru” on my business card. She laughed along and started throwing around variations on that theme. Then she triumphantly yelled “The Get Up And Go Guru!!”. Bingo!! Not as my job description (I’m cheeky, but not THAT arrogant!), but as my business name. It’s catchy, it’s tongue-in-cheek, it’s fun, and it’s got great energy – something I’ve searched for for years!!
And despite having CFS and limited physical energy for over 20 years, people who know me would agree that not much gets me down. I may stumble, I may fall, but nothing has kept me down yet – not illness, not pain, not heartbreak, not divorce (twice!! 🙂
If someone asked me what is the essence of me I’d say it’s my Get Up And Go attitude and my Get Up And Go spirit (well, it fits well here, so that’s what I’d say here 😉
And so The Get Up And Go Guru was born!
And now my goal is to give back to the CFS and electrosensitivity community in as big a way as I can. By blogging, by coaching, by podcasting, and anything else I can think of to make an amazing difference in people’s lives. I want to be for people with CFS now what I wish was available for me 20 years ago.”
Enjoy my blog. Stay tuned for my podcast. And Keep Smiling
Louise
